Life. Love. Candy!

  • About Karli

I have the fondest memories of making cookies as a child with my Grandma Devoe, and rifling through my Grandpa Devoe's "secret" candy cupboard. My Grandpa Merrill always brought a giant platter of handmade candies and chocolates to Christmas Eve, and Grandma Merrill had a fondness for Orange Sticks. My dad loved PayDays, my mom, Caramel Queen, spent decades creating the World's Best Caramel (the Honey Sour Cream). About 15 years ago, Caramel Queen and I started a small candy business that we set up at markets and fairs around Olympia, and we even got into Urban Craft Uprising in Seattle once. Our business came at a time when we were both going through hard losses, and brought us both a lot of joy and important distraction. We let the business go after a couple fun years, however. After the sudden and heartbreaking loss of my dad in June of 2023, followed by a terrifying pregnancy and delivery, I decided I needed a creative outlet, something just for myself, just for fun, and I revived DeVeaux's Candy and enrolled myself in a Professional Chocolatier program at Ecole Chocolate. I'm having a blast dreaming up new candies, learning new techniques. You can find me at the Packwood Saturday Market, send me special requests through this contact form, or find me around Packwood! I'd love to make custom chocolates, confections, or cookies for your special events!

  • About DeVeaux's

I've always had an entrepreneurial spirit, and have long been trying to find the right creative outlet for myself. Making sweet things brings me a lot of joy, and also makes me nostalgic for childhood and the people I love. I make filled and molded chocolates (bonbons), hand-rolled or sliced chocolates (truffles), caramels, pots de creme, cookies, shortbread, lemon curd, hot fudge sauce, toffee, bark, brittle, candied nuts, marshmallows, etc. Basically all that is good and glorious!

I'm in the process of creating candies named after my family members and other loved ones as a way to dabble in nostalgia and express my love and affection. The loss of my beloved father has absolutely hit home to me that our greatest joys in life come from our friends and family, our support people, our community, taking care of and loving each other. And finding ways to make the most of our "one wild and precious life."
